About Us

As the founder and President of Automotive Service Consultants, Skip Saurman possesses a dedicated professional career path in education for the automotive industry. Following extensive experience as a line technician, dispatcher, service and parts manager in various automotive and heavy-duty truck dealerships, he taught in both high school and postsecondary Automotive Technology education while receiving a degree in Vocational Education Studies from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Skip has authored test questions for ASE (the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence); evaluated National Skill Standards and Automotive Technology programs as a NATEF ETL (the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation Evaluation Team Leader); performed a professional internship with American Honda Motor Company in Torrance, California; researched vocational education and apprenticeship training throughout Germany; designed, implemented and improved Automotive Technology programs in Australia and the countries of Mexico and the Republic of Yemen.

As the former Trade, Industrial and Technical Education Administrator for the New Mexico State Department of Education, he monitored instructional and leadership grant funding totaling more than a million dollars annually and provided technical assistance to high schools and postsecondary institutions around the state, including military and correctional facilities. His passion for SkillsUSA (a Career Technical Student Organization) and knowledge of Federal Carl Perkins (vocational education funding), legislative issues, and national programs and initiatives makes him a valuable resource to any instructor, educator, administrator or business.

He has retained his ASE Certified MASTER Automotive Technician (CMAT) status since 1985, as well as mobile air conditioning and other various certifications and affiliations.

Skip’s primary mission has always been, and will continue to be, to improve the transportation industry by helping students and others through the improvement of effective automotive education and service.
